Meet Heather 💋
No matter how far away Heather is from Disney, she always is able to bring #DisneyStyle to her content. Heather is currently living in Germany, but is originally from New York - which is why her style is always on top of the coolest trends. I started following Heather last year when her and Hayley started #disneystylearoundtheworld, which was huge style moment to showcase how you can bring your own creativity and culture to your content featuring Disney pieces or Disney Bounding.
This hashtag has now gotten 11.6 K + posts, and continues to grow as a community. I am always constantly inspired by the way Heather finds random places in her city, and finds unique angles, to showcase her vision of how she wanted it to turn out. It amazes me that this girl brings her tripod, camera, and just goes for it when out and about in public. The use of color in her content, and her actual Instagram stories, are what bring so many to her page...like me for instance. I was so incredibly lucky to get an insight of a content creator that lives far enough away from the parks, but still manages to stun me with her park style.
When did you start social media?
I shifted my account to focus more on Disney style at the end of 2018.
What camera equipment do you use?
I have a Canon g7x mark ii and I use a Manfrotto tripod.
Where do you come up with your content ideas?
Sometimes while I’m at the gym, or when I see a piece of clothing I really love, or flipping through Pinterest and looking at pretty images that make me happy. But my content revolves around one piece of clothing or accessory usually. I always write down my ideas and make little lists so I don’t forget because you never know when inspiration might hit you! My point is I don’t just sit down and say “Right- time to create, come on ideas!”
Recommendations for content creators just starting out?
Just go for it, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are how you learn! I take my own photos because I really wanted to be a part of the Disney community but didn’t live in the same city as a park and I didn’t have anyone to take my photos. If this is something that you want to do, don’t make excuses for yourself. You can do it! And if you’re unsure how, watch tutorials on YouTube! That’s how I started.
What's your favorite place to adventure to?
I love adventuring all over Europe. I would say my top 3 favorite places are Paris/France, Rome/Italy and Schwangau/Germany. Schwangau is where the Neuschwanstein castle is- yep the castle that inspired Walt’s sleeping beauty castle!
What's your favorite part about your day?
I work with kids, and I’m very much a cheerleader type- so making them feel amazing and like they can do anything always makes my hard work worth it. But when I’m not at work, I really enjoy just relaxing at home with my two cats and boyfriend. Preferably with a big cup of coffee and a sweet treat in hand.
If you could be any animal what would you be? Why?
A cat! I love cats, they’re just so sleek and beautiful. I was actually afraid of cats all my life until I rescued a street kitten and since then I’ve always had a cat.
How do you suggest to go about collaborations with brands?
Personally, I do this for fun. I never create content in order to catch the attention of a brand. I’ve been very lucky in that brands always approach me. So my suggestion is, have fun with what you create- LOVE what you create, be AUTHENTIC. Brands will notice.
What advice would you give to someone who is not always confident it the content they put out there?
I would say don’t be so precious with what you share. We are always striving to share perfect shots, perfect clothes, perfect perfection... but that’s unrealistic. If the idea sparks joy and makes you WANT to get out there and create THAT’S what’s going to pull you through to continue to grow and become more confident. Practice practice practice, yes- this means even posing in front of your mirror and having an idea of what you want to do with your body and face before arriving to the location. When you’ve tried it at home, you won’t feel awkward and like it’s the first time you’re striking that pose.
Universal or Disney?
Disney 10000000% BUT I’ve never been to Universal! Haha. I’m a big Disney nerd so that’s where my heart lies.
Where is some place you wish to visit in the future?
I would love to visit Japan, specifically Tokyo. It’s been on my list for years and next year *fingers crossed* I’ll be there!
What is the main thing you wish to put into the world?
The main thing I wish to put out into the world is positivity. I know life is not always rainbows and sunshine but we have the power to choose what we focus on. It’s not always easy, I have my days- but when it’s raining out and you have to stay home, think “oh how lovely- now I can be cozy at home with a hot chocolate” instead of thinking “Ugh the rain ruined my day.” Look through rose colored glasses...
Something I would like to add about myself:
Always be true to yourself. I’m a Disney content creator but I don’t fit the mold and it took me some time at first to realize that’s OK. Be authentic, people will love you for it.
